Our Work

Abolishing Hunger and its Root Causes

Our mission is not only to feed the hungry to meet their immediate needs, but also to break the cycle of poverty. Therefore, we also serve as a community resource center that helps lead individuals and families to self-sufficiency through success coaching, counseling, training and development, often with the help of our community partners.

Since  2009, the Sahuarita Food Bank has been providing food and other  essentials to children, seniors, families and others in Southern  Arizona. We provide food to nearly 200 local families each week. In fiscal year 2017-18, we distributed almost 670,000 pounds of food, enough for 560,000 meals.

The Sahuarita Food Bank is an independent and self-governing nonprofit organization led by 150 dedicated volunteers, including our Board of Directors. Each year, our volunteers contribute more than 22,695 hours of service.

We are supported by financial and in-kind contributions from businesses, faith-based organizations and private donors. Our cooperative and collaborative partnerships with other area food banks—such as the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona and the Green Valley Food Bank—ensure that the needs of the community are being met.

Our operations are located at The Good Shepherd United Church of Christ in Sahuarita under a lease agreement. Due to our unprecedented growth, we plan  to build a new facility and expand our operations in the near future in order to respond to the critical and urgent needs in our community.
