The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a federal program that provides supplemental food to low-income individuals and families, and is administered here through the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES).
Clients are permitted two visits per month, and will receive a government TEFAP Box upon their first visit. At both visits, they will receive milk, eggs, and meat, and produce, if available. In addition, on their second visit, clients will shop from a variety of the items listed above, since they will not receive a TEFAP Box.
Many young students are underachieving academically and are suffering physically because they lack proper nutrition. Our BackPack Program provides supplemental food over the weekends to "nutritionally at-risk" children at no cost.
During the active Mexican winter/spring produce season, the Sahuarita Food Bank provides generous amounts of produce to all members of the community on Wednesday afternoons.
